Based upon this rifle, the Type 97 Sniper Rifle was imagined as a suitable sniper rifle to be employed by sharpshooters of the Imperial Japanese Army. While not as powerful as its successor, the Type 99, the Type 97 was well designed and enjoyed widespread use and respect from the soldiers who fielded it in combat. With a monopod and 2.5x scope, the long barrel of the Type 97 produced minimal flash and smoke, making counter-sniping activities rather difficult when the Type 97 was employed by a good sniper.S&T has faithfully recreated one of the “big 3” battle rifles from WWII. Built from aluminum alloy and real wood, the S&T Type 97 features the Imperial Chrysanthemum marking on the receiver as an added touch of authenticity and the appropriate offset scope and monopod.
